Karen L. Daugherty Obituary

Karen L. Daugherty, 74, of Edinburg, PA, passed away the evening of November 22, 2015 at Life Care Hospital of Pittsburgh, PA. Born on October 15, 1941 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late James and Virginia Shafnacker Durant. Surviving is her husband of 56 years, Charles C. Daugherty, whom she married in September 1958.


In her earlier years, Karen had worked as a licensed practical nurse. She later owned and operated Daugherty Boarding Kennel with her husband where she also did dog grooming. She was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Martha Shrine #14. Karen enjoyed volunteering her time, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.


In addition to her husband, Karen is survived by her daughter, Kelly Knight and husband James Jr. of Volant, PA; sister, Susan Rhyal of Princeton, PA; and grandchildren, Trisha L. Knight, James B. Knight III and his fiancee Lexi Collins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in by her brother, James Durant, and sister, Heidi Durant.


Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. Services will be conducted Saturday at 10:30am at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor John Yergan of First Baptist Church.


Interment will take place in Fair Oaks Cemetery.
