Martha Elizabeth Allen Obituary

Martha Elizabeth Eden Allen was born in Jay, Oklahoma, on January 26, 1924, to Claude and Nora Eden. She passed away in her home in Odell, after a long battle with cancer, on November 18, 2015.

Martha was predeceased by her parents and her husband, George Allen. She is survived by her three daughters: Claudia Floyd (John), Deelana Johnson (Robert), and Pamela Allen-Dean (Kevin), all of the Portland area; grandson Brian Floyd and granddaughters Andrea Floyd and Natalie Martin; sisters Erma Blackwell of Hood River and Ann Carpenter of Sparks, Nevada.

Martha moved with her parents and two sisters from Oklahoma to Hood River County in the fall of 1935. She attended Odell schools, graduating from Odell High School in 1946.

Martha and George first met as schoolchildren at Central Vale Grade School. They were high school sweethearts, and were married on August 4, 1946, in Odell. They lived on George's family's ranch in Odell, building their home on the property. They raised their three daughters in the home they built, and they lived there together until George's passing in 2010. Martha lived there for the remainder of her years.

Martha was active in the Odell Hazel Rebekah Lodge 156, Hood River County Home Extension, and 4-H. She enjoyed gathering with old friends at the Odell High School reunions. She loved to read, sew, knit and crochet. Although she claimed to not enjoy cooking, family and friends considered her a good cook, being known particularly for her apple pie, which George especially loved.

Martha was a devoted wife and mother. She was always warm and affectionate with her family and close friends, quick to give hugs and kisses to her loved ones. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

After the passing of George, Martha was determined to remain living independently in her home. Many family and friends, including new friends she met through Volunteers in Action, helped her in this endeavor, providing transportation, companionship, encouragement, and prayers over the years. Our family wishes to express our deep gratitude to these people who have supported Mother.
A service with reception following will be held at for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 1st, 2015 at Anderson’s Tribute Center (1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031). Martha will be laid to rest at Idlewilde Cemetery by her husband, George, who passed away in 2010. Please visit www.AndersonsTributeCenter.com to leave a note of condolence for family.
