Betty Jean Mounsey, age 84, of Old Saybrook formerly of Orange, passed away in Middlesex Hospital on Friday, November 13, 2015. She was born on October 25, 1931 in Pittsburg, PA to the late Walter and Sally Long Bassett. Before retiring, she was employed in the clerical department of Milford Rivet. An active member of the community, she was a member of Christian Women’s Club and the River Valley Baptist Church in Ansonia. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her dedicated daughter Deborah Shaw and her husband Gregory Shaw of Old Saybrook, sister Sally Lou Elko and her husband Joseph of Alhambra, CA, two grandchildren, Veronica Salsberg and Aaron Shaw and one great grandson Ryder Shaw. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband William L. Mounsey. Calling hours are Wednesday, November 18, 2015 from 5pm to 8pm at the Smith Funeral Home, 135 N Broad St., Milford. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 11am. Interment will follow at Kings Highway Cemetery.
