Carroll R. Shiffler

Carroll R. Shiffler, 96, of Ecumenical Retirement Community, Harrisburg, and formerly of Hummelstown, passed away Friday, October 23, 2015, in the M.S. Hershey Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hoernerstown on July 18, 1919, he was the son of the late Samuel B. and Mary Kline Shiffler. Carroll was a 1937 graduate of the former Hummelstown High School. He was a member of Hanoverdale Church of the Brethren, Hummelstown. Carroll was a dairy farmer until his retirement. Afterward he worked as a butcher for Groff’s Meats in Elizabethtown, and building shipping crates for Mold Base Industries, Inc., Harrisburg. He enjoyed gardening and hunting. Most of all, Carroll loved spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Carroll was preceded in death by his loving wife, Anna Lee Nealy Shiffler, on November 4, 2013; a brother, Melvin Shiffler; and a sister, Eleanor Oellig. He is survived by two sons, Samuel H. Shiffler husband of Joan and Richard C. Shiffler husband of Christine both of Hummelstown; a daughter, Kathy A. Ridge wife of Guy of Halifax; a sister, Mary Alice Geesaman of Hummelstown; eight grandchildren, Amy Reick, Ashley Shiffler, Abby Shiffler, Christine Thompson, J.R. Shiffler, Shawn Shiffler, Heather Peterman, and Guy Ridge IV; and eleven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 29, 2015, at 11 AM in the Hanoverdale Church of the Brethren, 577 Hershey Road, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Kevin King, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Hanoverdale Cemetery. Friends are invited to a viewing Thursday in the church from 10 AM until time of the services.
