Howland- Carlton “Chuck” C. Oakes, Jr., 55, passed away October 16, 2015. He was born May 12, 1960, in route to the Lincoln hospital inside Dr. Morey’s car. He is the son of Carlton C. Oakes, Sr. and Marilyn R. (Tapley) Oakes-Vose. Chuck grew up in Millinocket and was raised by his aunt and uncle Zelma & Gerry Ayotte and later, his aunt Rowena Voisine. He graduated from Stearns High in 1979. He married Gayleen Davis in 1981 and had two children, Jerry Lowell Oakes and Danielle Lynn Oakes. He worked for Bangor Hydro starting in 1978 and finished with Emera after working with them for 36 years. He ended as a lead foreman of the Northern Division and belonged to the Quarter Century Club. Chuck enjoyed working on home projects, like building a fireplace from the rocks his children picked. He took his home from being a small camp to a beautiful home over the years. He was hard-working and dependable. He loved his family and was a very honest man who was proud of his accomplishments. He is survived by his children, Jerry Oakes and wife Kelsy of Bangor, and Danielle Oakes of Howland; grandchildren Kyler and Kayden; mother of his children, Gayleen Cummings of Howland; fiance Charlotte Harper of Howland and her two children, Alysha Braley and husband Steven of VA and Marchel Tyler of Howland; siblings, Carla Carter and husband Fred of Dublin, GA, Karyn Oakes-Keeper of Hollis, NH and Matthew Oakes of Old Town; mother Marilyn (Tapley) Oakes- Vose of Reedley, CA; special friend, Mama June Pineau of Millinocket; special cousin Zemmie Saucier of Millinocket; as well as several nieces and nephews. Chuck is predeceased by his father, Carlton; his aunt and uncle, Zelma And Gerry Ayotte, aunt Rowena Voisine; and stepfather, Don Vose. Friends are invited to visit with the family 11am-12:45pm, Wednesday, October 21 at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. Funeral services will immediately follow at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 19 Colby Street, Millinocket.
