George F. Bashore Obituary

George F. Bashore, 92, of Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, Palmyra, and formerly of Hummelstown, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2015, in the home. Born in Lebanon County on June 21, 1923, he was the son of the late David and Minerva Iceman Bashore. George was a retired carpenter. He had attended Lebanon High School. George was a U. S. Navy veteran having served on the U.S.S. Mobile in World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 265, Hummelstown. George enjoyed hunting, camping, and spending time walking in the woods. Most important, however, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Erla F. Schauer Bashore, whom he married on August 5, 1950; one daughter, Debra B. Hilbolt wife of Dale E. of Hershey; one son, Keith A. Bashore husband of Deborah Booser Bashore; four grandchildren, Sarah E. Hilbolt, Ashley R. Grams wife of Matthew, Derek M. Hilbolt; and Seth H. Bashore; two great grandchildren, Lilly R. Grams and Caroline C. Grams; one sister, Edith Kreiser of Lebanon; one brother, Robert Bashore husband of Millie of the Poconos; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by three brothers, David Bashore, Henry Bashore, and Paul Bashore. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at 1:30 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Kirk E. Belmont, pastor of Hope Community Church, Mount Joy, officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Hummelstown Cemetery. Friends are invited to the viewing Tuesday from 1 PM until time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110. The family would like to thank the nursing staff of the Royer House of Lebanon Valley Brethren Home for their care and support over the last eight years.
