Janet K. Cleckner Obituary

Janet Kerpan Cleckner, 51, of Middletown, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, October 5, 2015, in her home with her loving family by her side. Born in Scranton on November 10, 1963, she was the daughter of the late Margaret Davis Fetter and William J. Kerpan. Janet was a hospice nurse for the former PinnacleHealth Hospice for almost 20 years, and continued her nursing career as an Oncology nurse for the PinnacleHealth System the last three years. She was a 1980 graduate of Northeastern High School, Manchester. Janet continued her education at HACC becoming a registered nurse, and was working on her BSN degree from American Sentinel University. She was a devout member of Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, Middletown, where she also taught CCD classes for 19 years. Janet was a past president of the Middletown Field Hockey Booster Club, and a former Girl Scout leader. She took great pride in being a committee member of the Funk Family Reunion. When not taking care of her family and patients, Janet could be found playing computer games and searching for the best deals; she also loved going to the beach. During her journey, the highlight of her life was her papal visit in Italy with Pope Francis this past February. Family was so important to Janet; she lived her life for them and they were her everything. Janet devoted her life to caring for others before herself, and will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. She always saw a silver lining and took in the beauty of the world along with her love of flowers, often stating “what a stunning day”. She is survived by her loving husband of 26 years, Douglas S. Cleckner, whom she married on June 3, 1989; one son, Daniel Adam Fetter of Fort Mitchell, KY; three daughters, Kelsey Marie Cleckner of Hummelstown, Kali Marie Cleckner of Middletown, and Kaitlin Marie Cleckner Souders wife of Lance A. of Middletown; two sisters, Susan Blackstock of Harrisburg, and Karen Woodings of Camp Hill; two grandchildren, Liam Scott Souders and Ruby Jane Cleckner; two uncles, Tom Davis husband of Nancy and Jim Davis husband of Peg both of Scranton; many nieces and nephews; a host of cousins; and her loving Maltese dog, Riley. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, October 12, 2015, at 11:00 AM in Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 280 North Race Street, Middletown, with The Rev. Fr. Edward J. Keating, as celebrant. Interment will be in the Churchville Cemetery, Oberlin. Viewings will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2015 from 6 to 8 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, and again on Monday in the church’s narthex from 10:00 AM until time of the service. Rosary will be recited Sunday in the funeral home at 8 PM. In remembrance of Janet, those desiring may send flowers or make a memorial contribution in her memory to a charity of their choice. Janet’s family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Chris Crocket, RN, and Linda O’Connor, RN, both of Homeland Hospice and previous co-workers of Janet’s; and to her dear friend, Amy Lavia.
