Laura (Plummer) Ranville, age 67, of Manistee, MI passed away Friday, September 25, 2015, after a year-long fight against multiple myeloma. She was surrounded by family and friends in her final days. She was born on January 15, 1948, in Muskegon, MI to Leonard H. and Dorothy (Anderson) Plummer and graduated from Mona Shores High School in 1966 and Central Michigan University in 1973. Laura was a teacher for over 30 years, teaching in Dimondale and Holt, MI, and Saudi Arabia. On February 2, 1973, she married David Ranville, who survives her along with her two children, Jason Ranville of Chicago, IL; and Megan (Owen) Durham of Columbus, GA and their son, Jack; as well as numerous other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Dorothy, and her brother, Leonard Scott Plummer of Muskegon. Laura loved Lake Michigan and often took daily walks on the beach. She was a specialist in early childhood literacy and a lifelong reader, passing on her passion for reading to her children. She was an amateur genealogist, unearthing long-lost family stories and even tracing her family history back to the Mayflower. She was devoted to her German Shepherd, Ellie, and mostly tolerated her granddogs. In recent years, she took up quilting, a pastime she started as a younger woman. Laura was a staunch supporter of MSU football and basketball and would like nothing better than to see MSU win the NCAA college football national championship title this year. Laura’s memorial service will be on Thursday, October 1 at 2PM at Oak Grove Funeral Home (309 W. Parkdale Ave, Manistee, MI) with a visitation beginning at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, Laura’s family asks that donations be made to the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.
