Elizabeth Rothgaber Obituary

Elizabeth A. “Libby” Diveley Schmidt Rothgaber, 89, of the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, and formerly of Hershey, passed away Monday, September 21, 2015, at her residence. Born in Meyersdale on November 8, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Edward L. “Jack” Diveley, Sr. and Marquerite Hawkins Diveley. Libby retired as a bookkeeper from Metrovision, Inc., Hershey, and had worked for Somerset Rural Electric in Somerset. She was a graduate of Meyersdale Area High School. Libby was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hummelstown. She was also a member of the Harrisburg Area Sweet Adelines Chorus, and the Order of the Eastern Star, Hershey Chapter #509. Libby was a beautiful person who loved to share her gift of singing. She was preceded into death by her two husbands, George C. Schmidt and Donald Rothgaber; her beloved son, Barry L. Deist; and a brother, Edward L. “Bud” Diveley, Jr. Libby is survived by two stepchildren, G. Charles Schmidt husband of Rita of Olympia, WA, and Barbara S. Smith of Dillsburg; a sister-in-law, Mary D. Diveley of Johnstown; two grandsons, Glen Smith and Dale Smith; two great-grandchildren; one great great grandson; and many friends. A celebration of Libby’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at 10 AM in the Roosevelt Assembly Room of the Health Care Center at the Masonic Village, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, with The Rev. Deborah J. Valiton-Carnish officiating. A visitation will be held Wednesday in the Roosevelt Assembly Room from 9 to 9:45 AM. An Eastern Star service will be recited at 9:45 AM Wednesday in the Roosevelt Assembly Room. Inurnment will be in the Union Cemetery, Meyersdale, at the discretion of the family. Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial contributions made to Masonic Village, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
