Joseph John Locke, 92, of Coventry, beloved husband of June (Clarkson) Locke for 72 years, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 24, 2015 surrounded by his loving family at the Douglas Manor nursing home. Joe was born on December 9, 1922 in New Haven, CT, the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Shanahan) Locke. He was a WWII Army/Air Corp veteran serving in the India/China/Burma Theatre. On August 7, 1943 Joe married the love of his life, June, they moved to Coventry in 1946, where they resided for 69 years. Joe and June raised 5 children and many foster children. Joe worked at the American Screw Company and Pratt & Whitney as an experimental engine assembler, retiring in 1985. Joe was a scout leader and long-time baseball coach in Coventry. He was a life-long Red Sox fan and lived long enough to see them win 3 Championships. We are thankful he was not a Cubs fan. . For many years he enjoyed camping with a great group of close friends. Joe was also a big UCONN fan. Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, as well as a kind and caring friend to many. Joe was a loyal, honest, hardworking, and trustworthy man who always had a smile on his face. He will be greatly missed by his family. Joe is survived by his wife June, and children William and partner Lynn Moeng, June Bourret, Joseph and his wife Debbie, Gregory and Paul, grandchildren Aimee, Casey, and Abbee Bourret, Jonathan and Jennifer Locke, great-grandson Dylan Bourret, sister Marge Holman, and several nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his beloved Golden Retrievers Jeremy and Joshua whom he cherished time with. The family would like to thank the staff at Douglas Manor for their kind and loving care. His family will receive friends for calling hours on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 from 5-7 pm at the Coventry-Pietras Funeral Home at 2665 Boston Turnpike, Coventry, CT. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Coventry Youth Baseball Association, PO Box 516, Coventry, CT, 06238.
