Betty Jean Blundell Obituary

Betty Jean Blundell, 91, of Scottville passed away September 23, 2015 at Metron of Cedar Springs nursing home. Betty was born to Joseph and Mary (Sims) Blundell on May 21, 1924 in Flint, Michigan and moved with her parents to Scottville as a young child. After graduating from Scottville High School in 1942, and during WWII, Betty attended the nursing program at Edward W. Sparrow in Lansing. Upon graduating from nurses training in 1948 Betty took a position at the Paulina Sterns Hospital in Ludington before taking a position in Flint at Hurley Hospital. Betty then took a position at McLaren Hospital in Flint where she spent over 30 years as a rehabilitation nurse before retiring in 1986. After retiring from nursing Betty moved back to Scottville and volunteered with the Red Cross for many years. She also loved to travel and went to Spain, Austria, Germany, Guam and all around the U.S. Betty finally got to go to Warwickshire, England in 2008 to see where her great grandfather had immigrated from. She had heard tales from her grandfather about Warwickshire as a young child. Being the family historian, it was a trip of a lifetime. Betty loved growing up in Scottville and told many stories about fishing with her dad, blueberry picking and Friday club with her mom as well as spending time with all her aunts, uncles and cousins. Betty was also an avid sports fan and loved Tiger baseball. Betty and her cousin Mary attended what would be their last Tiger game together in the summer of 2014. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Blundell and her sister, Zema Blundell Williams. Betty is survived by several nieces and nephews. Betty never married nor had any children of her own but was the best aunt anyone could ever ask for to her sister Zema’s four children, Dan, Pat, Steve and Nancy. Betty was “Aunt Betty” to so many people and while the family is saddened by the death of “Aunt Betty” they also want to acknowledge a life well lived. Betty Jean Blundell…..Pure Michigan A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday November 7, 2015 at Scotville United Methodist Church with Pastor Jack Conklin officiating.
