Washington- George Everett Davis, Jr. 88, died peacefully in Augusta on Saturday August 29th, 2015. George was born on September 1, 1926 to George E. Davis Sr. and Esther A Von Wormer in Mansfield, Mass. George grew up in the Foxboro area and graduated from its local High school. After high school George entered the US Army during WWII and he also served in the Korean war. George received the rank of Artillery Sgt. ( E-7) along with an honorable discharge in 1952. George then met the love of his life Marilyn Akers and they were married in Southbury, CT. in 1968. After living in Foxboro, George moved to Marston Mills located on Cape Cod, MA. George entered the work force being employed by New York Railroad for 10 years fixing the motors on the trains. He later worked for Pitney Bowes for a period of 25 years as a Tool and Die Engineer . Never wanting to be idle, George moved to Mercer Maine in 1973 and decided he would try his hand at farming. He then moved to Jefferson , Maine and later to Washington. He loved his cows along with his Show and Quarter Horses. George was a member of the N.R. A. and was always a hard-working, honest man who loved his military life, hunting, fishing and everything outdoors. George was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Stanley and Norman along with a daughter, Cindy Lou Davis. He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Davis of Washington Sons, Glenn Davis of Danbury CT. Ray Davis of Washington Todd Davis of Virginia Scott Davis of Washington Daughters, Pinky Lynn Davis of Hartford, Ct Sherrie Davis of Union Brother, Wayne “Butch” Davis of Vermont Sister, Ethelyn Miller of Florida As well as 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. A graveside service to honor George will be held on September 8th, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta, Maine.
