Daughter of John and Elizabeth (Hanson) Dunbar. She attended Country School #2 Blanshard & Downie at the top of a big hill which was popular for winter sports, tobogganing, sleigh riding etc. One particular teacher she loved was Gerda Langford (Mrs. Whitney) who she visited and esteemed all her life. Anna attended St. Marys High School including 5th Form. She graduated from Stratford Normal School with her Teaching Certificate. She was chosen as assistant to the May Queen, at the final crowning festivities. She was dressed elegantly in a gown made by her mother. Following this, teaching jobs were hard to come by, so she helped at home on the farm milking cows by hand, driving horses as well as helping friends in their homes. Her first teaching placement was in 1935 near Lucan where she taught for 7 years. Next, near her home at Revere School for 6 years, 6 years at Fish Creek School, 9 years St. Marys North Ward School. After this she was invited to be supervisor of music in the three St. Marys Public Schools. In the summer Holidays, she had attained her music teaching certificate. In 1967, Canada’s Centennial Year, she prepared such a successful concert consisting of children from three schools and covering song arrangements of each province of Canada. It was a highlight of her musical career. She had a talent for piano music and could pick up tunes at age 5, which talent has never left her as well as her singing voice. She married Launcelot Hardie a country farmer in 1940 and had 24 years of happy marriage. Launcelot died in 1964. In 1991 she had a second happy marriage to a fine gentleman Paul McCullough who died a year later. The lives of this Dunbar family was enriched by attending a little Country Sunday School in Downie township “Bethesda” This Sunday School was staffed by dedicated country folk. Other churches influencing her life were: St. James Anglican Church, St. Marys, Granton United Church and Westminster United Church Thamesford. In 1972 Anna had sold her farm home and organized the building of a lovely home in Thamesford which she enjoyed until 2008 when she retired to Wildwood Care Centre. After all these years she still holds ties with her former students such as: David Winchester, Brian Greer, Bill Hudson, Sharon Flood and Madelyn Tasker, and her sisters, and many others. They have fulfilled her life as well as former fellow teachers. She says, “God has been so good to her through 101 years!” Friends may join the family on Saturday, August 29th, 2015 from 9:30-11am at Westminster United Church, 115 George St. Thamesford, ON. where the funeral will be held at 11:00am with Rev.
