Lehman Tiller

Mr. Lehman L. Tiller, age 80, of the Indian Grave Gap section of Vansant, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at his home. Born July 18, 1935 in Herndon, Virginia, he was a son of the late Woodrow Wilson and Emma Burns Presley Tiller. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a 1954 graduate of Council High School. A devoted Christian, he was a member of Rowe Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a wonderful musician and enjoyed playing guitar, banjo and singing in church. He retired from Virginia Department of Transportation with thirty-five years of service, having worked as a clerk for five years and a maintenance supervisor for thirty years. Lehman enjoyed studying genealogy; he and his wife, Ruthie compiled several books and newsletters devoted to preserving family history. He was a loving father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother and friend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Ruthie B. Tiller; daughter-in-law, Tammy C. Tiller; four sisters, Viola Yelton, Dimple Watson, Arlene Tiller and Norma Farmer. In his generation, he was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survivors include two daughters, Maretta Lester and husband, Dwight of Rowe, Virginia, Regina Street and husband, Darrell of Vansant, Virginia; two sons, Stafford Tiller of Rowe, Virginia and Marcus Tiller and wife, Denise of Bastian, Virginia; three grandchildren, Joshua Lester and wife, Marlena of Dublin, Virginia, Daniel Lester of Rowe, Virginia and Victoria McCary of Rowe, Virginia; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Sunday (August 9, 2015) in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Arvil Arwood, Rev. Brad Cook and Rev. Edward Tiller officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Stafford Tiller, Marcus Tiller, Dwight Lester, Darrell Street; Joshua Lester and Daniel Lester.
