Edwin John Probeck, age 91, formerly of LaGrange, Illinois passed away at Oakview Medical Care Facility on July 18, 2015 in Ludington, Michigan. He was born March 24, 1924 in Louisville, Kentucky the son of the late Edwin Probeck, Sr. and LouElla VanDyke Probeck. Edwin was married to the late Barbara Rice Probeck on April 1, 1944. They had been married for 68 years. Barbara died in January of 2013. He worked for KilBar Electric in Chicago and in his later years he was self -employed as an Electrical Consultant. Ed was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in LaGrange. Ed had been an avid sailor all his life. He enlisted in the Navy in October of 1942 and was honorably discharged on November 28, 1945. Ed continued to enjoy sailing and spending summers at the family cottage in Red Park on Portage Lake. He is survived by his 5 children: Edwin John (Susan) Probeck, lll of Denver, CO, Susan (Doug) Truitt of Bear Lake, MI., Nancy (Dennis) Johnson of Lafayette, CO, William ( Kathy) Probeck of Lakewood, CO, and Sarah Aschauer of Auburn, Maine; 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Mary and his grandson, Paul VanDyke Johnson. A memorial service will be held in 2016.
