Barbara Alice Mackey, Age 68 of Bear Lake died unexpectedly this past Sunday, July 19, 2015 in Brooklyn, Michigan. She was born on June 27, 1947 in Kalkaska County’s Coldsprings Township the daughter of the late Glen W. & Fayette (Nickelson) Dean. She was a graduate of West Shore Community College’s LPN program. She married James E. Mackey on September 7, 1963 at the Bear Lake United Methodist Church. Barbara owned and operated Bear Lake Clinical Massage. As a licensed truck driver she drove with her husband for many years. They also owned and operated Mackey Farms, as well as having hosted over fifty foreign exchange students. They also catered many weddings and anniversary parties. She was an active member of the Onekama Lions Club for over 20 years and was a former Lion of the Year. Survivors include her husband; James E. Mackey, Sr. of Bear Lake, her children; James E. (Jill Borchers) Mackey, Jr., and John W. (Shannon) Mackey both of Bear Lake, Joel (Kerri) Mackey and Sherry (Randy) Ronning both of Manistee, grandchildren; Alex (Tiffany) Mackey, Duwane Maidens, Isaac Mackey, Emma & Abby Hornkohl, and Lexie and Calli Ronning, her siblings; Clyde (Hilda) Dean, Jr. of Idaho, Charlotte (Sam) Duff of Virginia, Bonnie (Ray) Lenz of Kaleva, Betty (Steve) Davis of Grawn, Daniel (Julie) Dean of Rice Lake, WI, and Steven (Pam) Dean also of Kaleva. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was also preceded in death by sisters; Doris Dean and Patsy Barnette, and brothers Emil, Lee, & Bruce Dean. Memorial Services for Barbara E. Mackey will be held Friday, July 24, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kaleva with Pastors Fred & Ruth Overdier officiating. The family will receive friends and the church Friday morning from 10:30 AM until time of services.
