Lawrence Eldon “ Papap” Kerns, 80, of Winchester passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 in the Winchester Medical Center. Mr. Kerns was born on November 2, 1934, in Gainesboro, VA; the son of the late Emmett and Lelia Kerns. He was a forklift operator for O' Sullivan Corporation until his retirement September 1, 1998. He was a member of Round Hill United Methodist Church. Larry married Janet Elizabeth Mason on July 24, 1954, in Williamsport, Md. She preceded him in death on September 20, 2006. He is survived by his two daughters, Barbara Elizabeth McDaniel and her husband, Mark of Winchester, and Deborah J. Kump of Winchester. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Robert Allen Kerns and Edward L. Kerns; two sisters, Thelma L. Logan and Hazel B. Dodge and one brother Harry Kerns. A visitation will be on Sunday afternoon, July 19, 2015, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester. A funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2015, at Jones Funeral Home with Pastor Penny Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Chestnut Grove Methodist Cemetery. Larry had a smile for everyone and a special love for his grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Winchester, VA 22601 in honor of Lawrence E. Kerns.
