Birger Sather

Birger (Bud) Sather passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 30th, 2015 at the Central Parkland Lodge in Lanigan, SK at the age of 93. Bud was born November 27, 1921 to Ole and Mabel. Bud will be greatly missed by: Children – Carolyn (Don Mortenson)of Govan, SK, Monte (Gerhild)of Shirley, BC, Doug (Kerry) of Nokomis, SK, Faye (Fred Korpatniski) of Kamsack, SK, Collin(Adele) of Calgary, AB; Grandchildren –Tim(Christine), Randy(Tari-Lynn), Mark (Allison), Victoria, Donald (Christa), Deliany(Kevin Lee), Rayelle (Trent Hilderman), Michelle (Greg Redl), Ryan, Leslie, Joshua, Genessa, Tyler; Great Grandchildren -Chase, Carolyn, Nathan, Dylan, Genevieve, Noah; Siblings - Wayne (Ailleen) of Medicine Hat, AB, Omer (Anne) ofAquadale Beach, SK . He is also survived by: Sister-in-law Irene (Arnold) Sather of Moose Jaw, SK and Irene (Rolph) Sather of Regina, SK and many nieces and nephews and friends. Bud is predeceased by his loving wife Elaine (Currie), Grandson - Michael Korpatniski, Brothers - Arnold, Rolph, and Cliff; Sister - Haldis Hancock and her husband Lorne; Sisters-in-law Marguerite and Norma. Bud received his education at Garland School and then entered the work force at an early age. He spent one winter in Vancouver B.C. employed at a sawmill and then returned home to briefly farm with his father. In 1942 he began to farm on his own. He partnered up with Lorne Hancock in a trucking business from 1949-57. Bud carried on with his farming operation and never truly retired. He married Elaine in 1945. They lived briefly at the farm before moving their house to Nokomis. His contributions were many for the love of his community. He served as town alderman for 20 years from 1966-86, and as caretaker at the Nokomis Curling Club from 1952-88. Bud was duly presented with plaques in recognition of his services. He was a member of the Nokomis Co-op and the Nokomis Wheat Pool Committee. Bud enjoyed curling, golfing, hunting, fishing, and playing pool. His passion was farming.
