East Millinocket – Lewis D. “Lew” Pelkey, 72, went to be with the Lord early in the morning of Saturday, June 27, 2015. He was born November 10, 1942 in Portland, the son of Paul and Harriet (Stewart) Pelkey. Lew was a Gunnery Sergeant E-7 in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving two tours in Vietnam, 1965-66 and 1968-69. He served 20 years in the Marines, and was very proud of his service. Lew was active in the Marine Corps League, serving as commandant. Lew was an active and beloved member of the Tri-Town Baptist Church in East Millinocket. He loved playing games, and hosting “cribbage nights” at his home, where he turned cheating at cribbage into an art form! He was greatly loved and will be affectionately remembered. In addition to his mother, Harriet Bouchard, Lew is survived by his wife of 24 years, Denise M. (Turcotte) Pelkey; six children, Terry and Lewie Deroche, Michelle Chackan, Jackie Pelkey, Tammy McLain, and Kristen Harmon; ten grandchildren; a sister, Paula Adams and her husband Doug of Millinocket; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will also be missed by good friends Rick Carr and Raymond Turcotte. Lew was predeceased by his father and a grandson, Tyler John Harmon. Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Wednesday, July 1 at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Thursday, July 2 at the Tri-Town Baptist Church, 8 Cone St., East Millinocket.
