James Russell

James Joseph “Joe” Russell, 77, of Harrisburg, passed away Monday, June 22, 2015, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in East Liverpool, OH, on June 26, 1937, he was the son of the late Murch Harry and Grace Ann Hotak Russell. Joe retired as a technician from MCI. He was a U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War. Joe was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 998, Lawnton. He enjoyed hunting, playing golf, and working on cars. Most important, Joe loved spending time with his family and will be truly missed by all. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Charlotte Ellen Newlun Russell, whom he married on September 3, 1960; three daughters, Cathy Jo Timmons wife of Michael of Hershey, Amber L. Allen wife of Brian of Hershey, and Nevaeh Jo Miller of Harrisburg; one son, Max Russell of Jonestown; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother, Harry Murch Russell; one sister, Elenor Russell Jolly; a sister-in-law, Donna Newlun; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Williams, and his brothers-in-law, Joe and Buck Newlun. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at 12:00 noon in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown. Interment with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Township. A viewing will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 AM until time of the services.
