Hermann Tartler Obituary

Hermann Tartler, 82, of Chambers Hill, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Brasov, Romania on December 6, 1932, he was the son of the late Heinrich and Katharina Miess Tartler. Hermann retired from the PA Board of Probation & Parole as their secretary, and was also previously employed as a police officer in Philadelphia. He was a graduate of Elizabethtown College with a B.A. in Criminal Justice; and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Hermann was an active member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, serving on church council, as an usher, and singing in the choir. He was a US Army veteran having served during the Korean War, and was a member of the VFW Post 1213, Rutherford. Hermann was a former Boy Scout leader, enjoyed playing the accordion and flute, camping, photography, and loved to dance with his wife, Margarete. Hermann is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Margarete Stabs Tartler, whom he married on October 20, 1956; his two daughters, Karin M. Tartler of Pasadena, MD, and Lori A. Graham wife of Michael D. of Harrisburg; his siblings, Heinrich Tartler of Schlichten, Germany, and Hermine Zsold of Neutraubling, Germany; his two granddaughters, Katiie S. Graham of Harrisburg, and Andrea D. Sloan wife of Daniel R. of Etters; and his four great grandchildren, Sydney D. Sloan, Samantha M. Sloan, Sophia D. Sloan, Nicholas E. Sloan, all of Etters. In addition to his parents, Hermann was preceded in death by his son, Eric Herman Tartler on January 16, 2014. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 26, 2015, at 10:30 AM in the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Wayne D. Moritz officiating. Interment with military honors will be held in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Township. Friends are invited to the viewing in the church parlor on Friday from 9:30 AM until time of the services. Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements.
