Obituary
Millinocket – Eugene Raymond “Ray” Levasseur, 89, died peacefully Friday, June 19, 2015 at Millinocket Regional Hospital following a brief illness, with family by his side. He was born July 15, 1925 in Millinocket, the son of John and Dalphine (Cyr) Levasseur. Ray was a lifelong native of Millinocket. He served proudly in the Navy as a Seabee during World War II. He was a lifelong member of the Elks and an avid outdoorsman in his younger years. Ray was the founder of Levasseur Hardware Store and ran it until his retirement in 1992. During this time he also built many homes and apartment buildings in Millinocket. During his retirement years, he enjoyed spending winters in Florida. He also loved woodworking in his work shop. Ray was very easy to please. His idea of a good day was conversing with people and having a good meal, particularly if that meal included scallops. Ray will be remembered for his big smile and quick wit, his generosity, and the love and devotion he had for his wife and family. In addition to his parents, Ray was predeceased by sisters Levina Downs and Arleen Deerborn, and stepchildren Michael Cullen and Lynn Beaumont. He is survived by his wife of 41 years Arline of Millinocket, stepchildren Steve Cullen and his wife, Mary Alice, of Millinocket, Jim Cullen and his wife, Kim, of Phippsburg, Tim Cullen of Millinocket and Nancy Cullen and her husband, Dan, of Preston, Connecticut. Grampy Levasseur is loved and survived by his grandchildren, Nicholas and Craig Cullen; Brad and Kate Morgan; Garrett and Jordan Cullen; Aaron and Anne Marie Beaumont; and Lindsey Hostetler, as well as three great grandchildren. Ray is survived by one sister, Madeline Civiello of Millinocket and nieces and nephews. Ray also leaves behind a special uncle, John Levesque and his wife, Doris, son-in-law, David Beaumont and friends, Leo Saucier and Lee Reardon. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 P.M. Friday, June 26 at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. Graveside services with military honors will be held 1 P.M. Saturday, June 27 at the Millinocket Cemetery with Deacon Danny Watson officiating. Gifts in memory of Ray may be sent to the Katahdin Area Support Group, P.O. Box 374, Millinocket, ME 04462.
