Leo Schaf Obituary

Leo Edward Schaf passed away at the age of 87 on June 15, 2015 at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home in Scottsbluff, NE with family at his side. He was born on August 19, 1927 in David City, NE, the son of Joseph F. Schaf and Mary F. (Heeg) Schaf. He grew up on a farm near David City and graduated from David City High School in 1944. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict from Jan. 1952 to May of 1953. Upon returning home he attended the University of NE for 2 years. He worked in the U.S. Postal Service for about 6 years while actively farming in the Sidney, NE area. Leo was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, the VFW and of the Military Order of the Cootie. Leo is survived by one sister, Alice (Schaf) Didier and brother–in-law, Harry Didier, 3 nephews and 6 nieces, plus 21 great nieces and nephews and 15 great, great nieces and nephews plus one great, great, great niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Sister Frances Schaf, brother Joseph H. Schaf, sister-in-law Althea (Blunn) Schaf and nephew Joseph D. Didier. Funeral graveside services officiated over by Father Jim Heithoff of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney, NE June 19, 2015 at 1pm. A Memorial Mass at the Western NE Veterans Home Chapel is pending.
