Dwight Doepel

Dwight D. Doepel Sr, 58 of Galway, NY, the son of Gwendolyn Ackerman Doepel of St. Petersburg, FL, and the late William F. Doepel, passed away suddenly Sunday June 7, 2015. Dwight proudly served in the United States Air Force - Airman First Class from 1976 to 1980 and retired in 1996 as a flight engineer from the 109th Airlift Wing, New York ANG, Scotia, NY. He was currently employed at VBI, Inc., and had worked in the HVAC field for many years. An avid baseball fan (GO YANKEES), he coached and umpired many high school baseball games. He was currently an assistant coach for the Amsterdam Rams Baseball team. Dwight is survived by his wife, Vicki Sikora and was a loving father to Alicia Sikora, Dwight D. Doepel Jr., William P. Doepel, Paul Sikora and Fred D’ Alessandro and his beloved dog, Anna all of Galway, NY. He is also survived by his siblings, which include Ginger (Eric) Debruyn, John (Kellie) Doepel and Dwayne (Joellen) Doepel all of St. Petersburg, FL., Bonnie Remillard of Galway and his goddaughter, Starna “Reez” McKinnon of St. Petersburg, FL. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Dwight was also predeceased by his siblings, Tom Doepel and Deadra Grundstrom. The family will receive family and friends on Saturday June 20, 2015 from 12 noon to 3:00 p.m. at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010, where a brief memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Dwight’s name may be made to Leatherstocking Honor Flight so that he may continue to fly with his fellow veterans.
