Ann Hitchen

Granville Ann Jones Hitchen, 74, passed away on June 10, 2015, at her home, with her family by her side. Born in 1940, in Granville, New York, she was the daughter of the late Edward T. and Mabel (Skellie) Jones of West Pawlet, VT, where she grew up. Ann graduated from Granville Central School and Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY. She launched her professional career after becoming certified as a residential specialist and residential broker by the NY State Realtors Institute and the National Association of Realtors. Ann built a full service real estate partnership with Thomas S. Nelson during her 35 years in the industry. She served as president of the Washington County Board of Realtors and was named realtor of the year in 1983. Ann was a member of the Granville Area Chamber of Commerce, served on several professional and community boards and committees, and was honored as “Citizen of the Year” in 1996 by the Granville Rotary Club for her outstanding community service. After retiring, she found a new ways to work with people including as a “Sample Lady” for Price Chopper in Granville. Ann dedicated her life to making a difference in the lives of individuals and the community. As the fundraising chair for the Slate Valley Museum from 1992 to 1997, and as the proud daughter of a Welsh-American quarryman, she was instrumental in the establishment of this highly successful addition to Granville’s cultural scene. Her most recent work with the Museum included helping with the Museum’s annual Silent Auction and chairing the Food and Decorations Committee for the Holiday Open House. Her many passions included dance and music, travel throughout North America and Europe, and cooking. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, the sunshine of her life. Beside her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Edward M. Jones and granddaughter Layla Ann Jones. Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Tracey Hitchen Boyd and her husband, Donald, of Cambridge NY, Jill (Hitchen) Jones and her husband, Jim, of Boxford MA; her grandchildren, Owen Michael Boyd, Amelia Ann Boyd and Jaime Ann Jones; a niece and nephew, and many friends. At Ann’s request there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are in the care of the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828.
