Florence Athans Hazimanolis, 85, of New Castle, passed away the morning of June 1, 2015 at Avalon Nursing Center. Born on December 17, 1929 in York, PA, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Olympia Diamond Athans. Surviving at home is her beloved husband of 59 wonderful years, Costas Hazimanolis, whom she married on March 11, 1956.

Florence formerly worked as the co-owner of Hollywood Studios in the Donati Building in New Castle. She also previously worked as a fashion artist for various department stores. A devoted member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Florence was a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and a dedicated volunteer for activities at the church and belonged to the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society. She enjoyed water color and oil painting and needlepoint. Florence’s life was dedicated to helping people.

In addition to her husband, Florence is survived by her sons, George C. Hazimanolis and partner Tom Downing of Pittsburgh, PA and Arthur Hazimanolis and wife Leslie of New Castle; sister, Constance Murphy of York, PA; and grandson, Jason Hazimanolis. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Dale Murphy.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 11:00am to 12:00pm at St. George Greek Orthodox Church 315 W. Englewood Avenue, New Castle, PA 16105. Services will be conducted Thursday at 12:00pm at the church.

Interment will be held in Parkside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions take the form of donations made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
