Joseph Hutnik

Joseph Michael Hutnik died on May 24, 2015 at his home in Coventry CT surrounded by his loving family. Born in 1941 to Joseph and Mary Hutnik in Brooklyn, NY, Joe had an interesting and exciting life. His formative years were spent in Clifton NJ where his Lakeview Ave buddies became his lifelong friends. “Jersey Joe” proudly served as a pilot in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1978 rising to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Along with his naval career, he worked as a pilot for United Airlines and as a defense contractor for Carson’s Associates. Since 1999 Joe embraced his new profession as a clinical pharmacist at Connecticut Valley Hospital. He was an active member of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Willimantic CT and an avid gardener. Joe earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Fairleigh Dickenson University in 1963, a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Connecticut in 1997 and, at age 63, a Doctorate in Pharmacy from the University of Florida in 2004. Joe is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Junda and son, Nikolas Hutnik of Coventry CT, son Joseph Hutnik and wife, Alysa and granddaughters Noa and Lila of Arlington, VA, and numerous extended family members and friends. All will remember fondly his sense of humor and infectious smile and laugh. Calling hours are 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 27th, 2015 at Coventry-Pietras Funeral Home in Coventry CT. Calling hours will be held from 9:00-9:45 AM on Friday, May 29th at St. John’s Orthodox Church in Passaic NJ, followed by a 10:00 funeral service with burial at East Ridgelawn Cemetery in Clifton NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe’s memory can be sent to Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society at www.nmcrs.org
