Robina "Ruby" Whynacht Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Robina “Ruby” Beatrice Emily Whynacht, 84, of Lunenburg announces her passing on Sunday May 17, 2015 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Ruby was the daughter of the late James and Mary Black. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Born in Scotland, Ruby moved to England at the age of six and at the age of nine she and her sister Margaret sailed to Nova Scotia to live with their grandparents for the duration of the war, attending Lunenburg Academy. Following her return to England, she decided to return to Canada at the age of thirteen. Ruby began her working career with National Sea Products then Scotia Trawler, followed by twenty-six years as manager of the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic Gift Shop in Lunenburg. She enjoyed being involved in curling and bowling and loved to dance, and spend time cooking for her family, whom were always a priority in her life. Ruby was a member of Central United Church, Lunenburg. There was one very important lesson Mom taught us when we were young, was not to say “never”. She herself said when she was young she would never marry a fisherman and she would never marry a man who couldn’t dance, but guess what! She married a man who fished, couldn’t dance and could not have been happier. Ruby is survived by her daughter, Susan Whynacht (John Mulley), Bridgewater; son, Jamie (Peggy), Lunenburg; grandchildren, Barrett (Melissa) Risser and Tabitha (Paul Maxwell) Risser and great-grandmother to Mackenzie, Felicity, Eden and step –grandaughter Bailey. She will also be missed by many in her extended family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband James (Buddy), sons Gregory, Malcolm and her sister, Margaret. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg and from where a memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 23, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Dr. Laurence Mawhinney officiating. Interment in Garden Lots Cemetery. The family would like to thank the emergency department, Dr. Krista Watson of Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg, the 3rd Floor surgery, Dr Sarah Tennant of South Shore Regional Hospital for all the compassionate care shown to Mom. And a special thank you to all of her extended family on Cornwallis Street. In lieu of flowers memorial donations made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family. www.sweenyfuneralhome.ca
