William Robert ‘Bob’ Rhodes, 75, of Hutchinson, KS, passed away, Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Hospice House in Hutchison, KS. Graveside Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery, Atchison, KS. Memorial contributions in honor of Bob are suggested to Hospice of Reno County, to a charity of the donor’s choice, or to even simply give a hug someone you love. Bob was born May 27, 1939 in Baltimore, MD, the son of Glenn Lorraine and Rhoda Elizabeth (Donovan) Rhodes. Bob served his country honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War from 1961-1964; where he had been stationed in Italy, Germany, France and Greenland. Bob then served for 13 years (1966-1979) as a Baltimore City Police Officer in the northern, central and southeastern areas of Baltimore. In 1979, Bob moved to Kansas and worked 24 years (1980-2004) as a Correctional Officer until he retired from the Hutchinson Correctional Facility. In Bob’s younger years, his love of baseball and his talent led him to be recruited by the Major League Baseball teams of Pittsburgh, New York, Philadelphia and Detroit but unfortunately, Bob was unable to pursue a career as a professional baseball player due to the fact he wore glasses. Bob and Marilyn Carr were united in marriage on May 27, 1982 in Hutchinson, KS. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Marilyn Rhodes of the family home in Hutchinson; step-daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Tim Fletcher, Hutchinson; step-grandson, Austin Fletcher, Hutchinson; two sisters, Rebecca Jean Ramsey, Indianapolis, IN and Joyce Brooks, Easton, MD. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William (Bill) Ellis Rhodes and Glenn Emery Rhodes; sister, Elizabeth Ellen (Tootsie) Rhodes.
