TRNKA, Katharine (Katy) Helen - It is with great sadness that the family announces that Katy peacefully passed away at Dearness Home on May 16, 2015. Proud mother of Paul Trnka (Carol) of London, John Trnka (Susan) of Waterdown, Kathy Geris (Bill) of London, Jean McFarlan (John) of Thamesford and the late Michael Trnka (1988). Cherished grandmother to Jeremy Trnka (Emily), Jennifer Trnka, Matthew Trnka, Kerry Trnka-Ward (Bret), Sandy Trnka, Mark Geris, David Geris, Ryan McFarlan and Brennan McFarlan. Special great-grandmother to Alexander Trnka. Dear sister of Jean Hodgins (Terry) of Ilderton and sister-in-law of Jennie Kopal of Strathroy. Predeceased by her brothers Paul Kopal and John Kopal, her sister Mary Lorenowicz and brother-in-law Wally Lorenowicz. She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. She was born on May 28, 1925 in the former Czechoslovakia to the late John Kopal (1977) and Rozalia Kopal (nee Benda)(1954), emigrating to Canada as a young child. She was raised in Denfield before settling down with Paul in the Woodstock area. Katy worked for several years at the Woodstock Hospital and Caressant Care Nursing Home and later was a volunteer at the Rose Rebecca Lodge #43 Catholic Womens League of Canada, the Alzheimer’s Society and the Woodstock Senior Citizens Centre for many years. Among her interests were music whether it was singing, dancing or playing the accordion, she also enjoyed her cats and dogs and playing cards. A heartfelt thanks goes out to the residents, nurses and staff of Dearness Home for their care and compassion during her 4 years of residence, but most especially during this last phase of her journey. The family will receive friends at the Brock & Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, 519-539-0004 on Wednesday May 20, 2015 from 7-9pm.
