Gordon Tait Stewart, age 85, of Milford passed away on Friday, May 15, 2015. He was born in New Haven to the late James and Janet Morrison Stewart on October 28, 1929. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the U.S.S. Beatty. Gordon worked in the trucking industry for 45 years before retiring from Baileys Express in Middletown. Upon retirement he continued to enjoy many of his passions including his Tuesday golf outings, watching the Yankees and Giants, and spending time with his cherished grandchildren. Gordon spent his final years totally devoted to his soul mate Catherine after she suffered a major stroke in 2009. He was a tower of strength and love for his whole family. In addition to his beloved wife, of 60 years, Catherine Reynolds Stewart, he is survived by his devoted children, James Stewart and his wife Marybeth of Milford, Ronald Stewart of Guilford, Cynthia Stewart of Milford, Deborah Schumitz and her husband Rick, Kathleen Munroe and her husband Al, Margaret Weissauer and her husband Ed all of Milford; thirteen grandchildren Jim and his wife Jen, John and Gordon Stewart, Jordan and Jake Stewart, Stephanie and Tucker Schumitz; Shea, Tanner, and Albert Munroe, Zach Munroe and his fiancé Megan Ryan; and Hannah and Lucy Weissauer. He's also survived by his sisters Janet Ghent of Stratford and Mary Morrow of Milford. We would also like to thank Catherine's care takers Carmella, Tammy and Rita. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers James Stewart, John Stewart and a grandson Matthew Schumitz. Family and friends are invited to Smith Funeral Home, 135 N. Broad Street Milford, on Monday, May 18th from 5 pm to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Mary Church, 70 Gulf St, Milford at 10:30 am on Tuesday, May 19th. Interment will follow in St Mary Cemetery, Buckingham Ave, Milford. Memorial Contributions may be made in Gordon's name to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, CT Branch 101 Centerpoint Drive, Suite 107' Middletown, CT 06457.
