Phyllis Buckner Obituary

Phyllis Ann (Richley) Buckner, age 71, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday May 10, 2015 unexpectedly at her home in Bear Lake. Phyllis was born on December 6, 1943 in Frankfort, daughter of the late Edward “Ted” and Bonnie (Gilbert) Richley. She attended Arcadia Methodist Church. Phyllis had been a cook for the Onekama Consolidated Schools and at the Arcadia School for 10 years. She went on to cook at the Pepper Mill in Onekama for many years. In her youthful years she enjoyed downhill skiing, cross country skiing and bowling. Phyllis also loved to knit and made some wonderful creations for her many friends and family, which will be cherished for years to come. In more recent years she enjoyed cooking, (her potato salad and baked beans were a must at family gatherings) baking and spent many, many hours scrapbooking with friends of whom she was very fond. Phyllis’s family was the center of her existence and the most important part of her life. She enjoyed every minute of being an attentive and devoted mother and grandmother. Her presence will be greatly missed at every family function. Phyllis is survived by her son, Scott (Kathy) Buckner of Onekama; daughter, Bethany (Tony) Merrill of Benzonia; 6 grandchildren, whom affectionately referred to her as “Grannie”, Jordan (Kayla Myers) Maxey, Kailani Buckner, John H. Girven, III, Reilly Merrill, Reagan Merrill and Jarrett Buckner; brother, Doug (Shelly Thomas) Richley of Manistee; and husband of 53 years, Herb Buckner of Bear Lake; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Shari Ann (Buckner) Girven in 2001; her parents; and her devoted feline friend of 19 years, Sheba in 2014. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service for Phyllis will be held at 2:00PM on Friday May 15, 2015 at the Bear Lake United Methodist Church in Bear Lake with Reverend Jane Logston officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation from 1:00PM until time of service. Final interment will take place at Pleasanton Township Cemetery at a later date.
