Anne Broderick Obituary

Anne Bryan Broderick, age 70 of Ludington passed away on April 24, 2015 at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital. Anne was born on May 22, 1944 in St. Louis, MO to the late John K. and Alice M. (Bradish) Broderick. Anne loved every day that she attended Mary Institute, She just soaked up all the intellectual exercises MI provided and she actually enjoyed doing homework! And all of the physical activities – Go Gold Team! After partying for 2 years at Northwestern, Anne transferred to Washington University and settled down for a double major/double minor degree. She never used any of this knowledge in her “real” life, except as a French translator in a Vietnamese refugee camp and for Social Security. A byproduct of one of her minors was a fabulous archeological trip with Prof. George Mylonas that duplicated Odysseus’ journey. After college Anne worked for several federal agencies (HEW, Dept. of Labor, and Social Security) and was on the road for 10 years developing job training programs. Then she did a long stint at Social Security for 20 years. Anne retired early and moved to Michigan so she could get a Master’s in Beach Bumming. She visited Lake Michigan everyday as part of her coursework. Being on the road in Tornado Alley, Anne often had to duck and cover when tornadoes whipped by. But the most memorable storm happened in her yard in Jefferson City. She was in the shower when the tornado sirens went off. Anne just had time to get a t-shirt and her camera. She was determined to get one of these babies on film. She was standing on her front stoop photographing away as the funnel formed right over her head, when a huge gust of wind slammed her front door shut. OOPS…. Locked out. No cover. No clothes. Ran to the neighbors and banged on their doors. They, being smarter, were sheltered in their basements- clothed and dry! After it was over, Anne’s neighbors took pity on her (snorting with laughter), gave her a beach towel for cover, and called her friends to bring over her extra house key. Anne never did live that one down…. Anne had a passion for travel, reading, history, her personal deer herd who bed down under her bedroom window and especially enjoyed beach bumming. Anne is survived by her brother, Bryan (Barbara) Broderick; niece, Dawn Broderick; nephew, Sean Broderick and sister-in-law, Carol Broderick. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother John Watson Broderick. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Anne’s name may be directed to Lakeshore Animal Friends. The family has entrusted funeral arrangements with Oak Grove Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
