Sister Margaret Emily Devenish (Sister Mary Esther) A Grey Sister of the Immaculate Conception, Pembroke, ON died in Pembroke on the 14th day of April, 2015 in the 76th year of her Religious Life. Predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Ada (Gill), and her sister, Nora Cecelia Cairns, she leaves to mourn the members of her Religious Community as well as cousins Bill (Margaret) Woodley of Ottawa and Harold (Betty) Cogill of Blue Mountain, ON. Born in York Township, Fairbank, (Toronto, ON) on September 10th, 1918, she entered the Community on September 1st, 1939, pronouncing final vows on August 8th, 1944. Sister Margaret's ministry led her to various areas, including The Pembroke General Hospital, Lorrain School of Nursing, St. Patrick's Home, Ottawa, The Motherhouse and Marianhill Residence, Pembroke. A graduate of the Quo Vadis School of Nursing, Toronto, Sister Margaret served in the Sault Ste. Marie General and in St. Anthony's Hospital, Esterhazy, SK. She also ministered as a missionary in China, Japan, and the Dominican Republic. In retirement, she volunteered at Bruyère Centre, Ottawa, for a period of fifteen years. Her final years were lived peacefully at Shalom Residence, Pembroke. Visitation at the Caritas Residence, 215 Deacon Street, Pembroke on Thursday, April 16th, 2015 from 12:30-2:00 p.m. followed by a Funeral liturgy in the Caritas Residence Chapel at 2 p.m. Interment in St. Columba’s Cemetery.
