Gordon B. Black Jr., 75, of Decatur, died on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Adams Memorial Hospital. Gordon was born in Marion, IN on September 23, 1939 to the late Gordon B. Black Sr. and Beatrice L. (Miller) Black. On July 25, 1964 he married Mary A. Loshe. Gordon was a member of the United Brethren Church in Decatur for many years and he most recently attended Life Community Church in Bluffton. He was a Decatur High School graduate. He retired from General Electric after 28 years of service, and then went to work for Bing-Lear, until his retirement. Gordon had a deep love of God and shared it with everyone. Gordon, above all, was an encourager who was for people and he didn’t know a stranger. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and going to their sporting events or whatever they were involved in. He enjoyed golf, basketball and softball. He coached softball and basketball in Decatur and Monroe for all ages. Gordon is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary A. Black of Decatur; a son Daren D. (Lisa) Black of Decatur; two daughters, Paula J. (Andy) Monnin of Piqua, OH and Gina R. (Mike) Pinkerton of Bluffton; two sisters, Barb (Noel) Thatcher and Myra (Herman) Harkless both of Decatur; 7 grandchildren, Hayden Black, Hannah (Tyler) Neuenschwander, Kristen, Daniel, Nathan Monnin, Caleb Pinkerton and Emily (Alfred) Albers. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob and Dick Black. Visitation is from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to services on Thursday. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 16th also at the Funeral Home. Pastor Chad Ringger and Pastor Andy Monnin will be officiating. Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the ACCF Angel Cancer Fund.
