Joyce Adams Obituary

Millinocket – Joyce A. Adams, 60, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at a Millinocket hospital. She was born October 10, 1954 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, the daughter of William E. and Mary J. (Parker) Reardon. Joyce grew up in western Massachusetts, and met Bob Adams there in 1975. They began dating, and after just 4 dates, Bob proposed to Joyce. They have been happily married since, celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary on March 21st. Joyce was very active in her community. She founded the Rivertown Playschool in Winterport, was a member of the PTA, KAWA, Emblem Club, Literacy Club, Chamber of Commerce, Ducks Unlimited, the Millinocket Regional Hospital Auxiliary, and other worthy organizations. Joyce was a devoted mother, spending time as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, and even orchestrated a bus trip for middle schoolers to go see New Kids On The Block. She loved writing, and maintained a journal every day since she was 12. Being a “cat person”, Joyce had three cats that were special to her – Mittens, Boots, and Lucky. Joyce and Bob worked hard to maintain an active lifestyle and lived a very full life. They enjoyed travelling, with some of their favorite destinations being Chateau Champlain in Montreal, the Hilton in St. John, New Brunswick, Monument Valley, Arizona, and the Bryce Canyons National Park. They travelled over 100,000 miles on motorcycle, and spent time boating off the coast of Maine. Joyce loved entertaining friends in her home, and especially spending time with family. Bob and Joyce made their relationship an example of true love for all who have known them. In addition to Bob, Joyce is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Meza and her husband Adrian of Alexandria, Virginia, and Megan Dysart and her husband Rory of Hampden; four grandchildren, Veronica and Camilla Meza, and Katie and Abby Dysart; three siblings, Diane Kitterman of Pittsfield, MA, Betsy Bozicevic of Lake Worth, Florida, and Mark Reardon of Dalton, MA; and many special nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Joyce was predeceased by a son, Robert “Bobby” Adams, and a sister, Ellen Levesque. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 P.M. Monday, April 6 at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Tuesday, April 7. Spring interment will be at the Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Joyce may be sent to St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 40 Highland Ave., Millinocket, ME 04462, or to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt. Hope Avenue, Bangor, ME 04401.
