Steve Medvit

<p>Steve Medvit, 87, of Union Township, passed away the evening of March 27, 2015 at the Avalon Nursing Center. Born on October 4, 1927 in Ford City, PA, he was the son of the late Anthony and Anna Prodonivich Medvit. On June 21, 1952, he married his beloved wife, the former Mary Carmen Zito, and they spent over 62 wonderful years together until she preceded him in death on September 2, 2014. </p><p><br></p><p>Steve retired from his job as an independent truck driver who also worked for Martin Brothers Trucking and Mitchell Transportation. He also served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of St. Vitus Church. He also belonged to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local Union Number 261. An avid hunter and fisherman, Steve enjoyed spending time at camp. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. </p><p><br></p><p>Steve is survived by his children, Mark Medvit and wife Nadine of Rome, NY and James Medvit and wife Lottie of New Castle, and six grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Zora Salusky, Mary Taylor, Angeline Brubaker (Pensy), and Rose Potts; and brother, Peter Nelson. </p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. A blessing service will be conducted Wednesday at 12:00pm at the funeral home. </p><p><br></p><p>Entombment will take place at Resurrection Mausoleum. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct military rites at the cemetery. </p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to The Arc, Oneida-Lewis Chapter, NYSARC Administration Building, 245 Genesee Street, Utica, NY 13501.</p>
