Velma Lee Phillips age 87 of Robertsdale, AL and a former resident of Sandflat, AL died March 19, 2015 at her home. She was born December 22, 1927 in Sweet Water, AL. She was a former nurse and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Demopolis, AL. She is survived by five children, Gail Hedrick of Demopolis, AL; Ronnie (Sharon) Phillips of Fairbanks, AK; Ruth (Billy) Symon of Demopolis, AL; Julie (Jim) Dailey of Robertsdale, AL; and Dean Booen of Demopolis, AL; four sisters, Nell Pugh of Bashi, AL; Shirley Stokley of Semmes, AL; Pat Baggett of Brewton, AL; and Alice (Emmett) Craven of Winnsboro, SC; brother, Dan Strickland of Wildwood, MO; three sisters-in-law, Flora Dean Gates, Molly Jo Phillips, and Vonciel Phillips, 29 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, a host of nephews, nieces, extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy M. Phillips, parents, Erma and Alex Strickland, daughter, Opal Booen, son-in-law, Wes Hedrick, grandsons, Tony Hoven and Mike Hedrick, sisters, Mary Ethridge, Eyvonne Stokes and many loved sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Visitation will be held at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Thursday from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. Funeral services will be held at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Tommy Carr and Rev. Benny Crawford officiating. Burial will be in the Midway Baptist Church Cemetery in Thomasville AL. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Demopolis, AL. Arrangements by O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville, AL.
