Betty Mowery

Betty Jean Mowery, 74, of Winchester, died Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Blue Ridge Hospice In-Patient Care Center. Mrs. Mowery was born February 28, 1941 in Frederick County; the daughter of Cecil Samuel Dyke and Martha Whitacre Dyke. She had worked for Double Day, Grand Union, Choice IGA, Martin’s Food Store, after retirement, she enjoyed working at the Virginia Farm Market. She was a member of the Red Hat Crimson Nightingale Sisters and volunteered at the Blue Ridge Hospice Thrift Store. She married Elwood J. Mowery on November 20, 1959 in Stephens City. Mr. Mowery preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Kathy Clevenger of Middletown and Daniel Mowery of Stephens City; six grandchildren, Jessica Clevenger Foltz, John Clevenger, Daniel Evan Mowery, Sam Mowery, Michael Mowery and Grace Mowery; one great grandchild, Asa Catherine Foltz; five sisters, Annabell Helsley, Marie Duvall, Genevieve Cline all of Winchester, Mary Elizabeth Clemons of Clear Brook and Helen Copeland of Stephens City; and four brothers, Kenneth Dyke of Front Royal, Earl Dyke of Martinsburg, WV, Robert Dyke of Charles Town, WV and Eugene Dyke of Manchester, MD. She was preceded in death by her sister Patricia Ann Patterson. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester. A memorial service will be held following the visitation at 7 p.m. with Rev. Ken Patrick officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Winchester, VA 22601.
