Vivian Alma Scott Obituary

Vivian Scott, aged 84 years, passed away peacefully at the Watrous District Health Complex on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 with her family by her side. Vivian was born to Pete (Per Arvid) and Elisabeth Sundquist January 2nd, 1931. Vivian had 4 siblings, Loretta, Margaret, Peter, and Harold. As a young girl, Vivian attended school in Venn, SK, and later graduated from Watrous High School. She carried on with her education attending The Saskatoon Teachers’ College receiving her Teaching Certificate. She met and married Lloyd Scott from the Lockwood area, July 12th, 1950. Vivian taught at the Floradale School until she and Lloyd began their family. Two children were born to them, Brenda in 1952, and David in 1953. Vivian and Lloyd lived and farmed west of Lockwood for more than twenty years. They had a mixed farming operation involving land and cattle. Vivian was never idle. She loved to maintain a beautiful yard, and always had a huge garden to tend to. She was an expert at canning; so many delicious fruits and vegetables were enjoyed year round out of her garden. After they moved to Watrous in 1973, she often said that she missed having the large space that a farmyard had to offer, as she never felt that she had enough room for all her plants in town. Vivian will always be remembered for her love of lilies, irises, and roses. Grandma said that you had to have those flowers in your garden, because they will always come up again in the spring. She told us they were tough and resilient plants, just like those who first came to live here on the prairies. You had to be tough, if you were going to make a life here. She was tough. Vivian was an excellent record keeper. She loved to journal, record the daily weather, and kept the family genealogy up to date. She never missed sending a card or a note to celebrate a special occasion, or to let someone know she was thinking of them. Vivian was an active member of the United Church Women’s group. She loved to visit with friends, whether they could come over for a coffee, or she caught up with them downtown. Vivian truly enjoyed visiting and catching up with those she knew, and she was always genuinely concerned to find out how they had been keeping. Vivian’s life was dedicated to the love and care of her family. Vivian was completely steadfast with the care of her husband Lloyd for 64 years. She raised her children, devoted herself to her three grandchildren, and played an extremely active role in the lives of her six great grandchildren. She was known to many, young and old, as “Grandma”. She truly was a wonderful Grandma to all, not just her family. How fortunate we were to be so completely loved and spoiled by her! Vivian was a tremendous hostess to all her guests. It didn’t matter if it was planned, or you showed up unannounced at her house for a quick visit; you could always be certain to be provided with some sort of instant meal, or a treat, and always a cup of tea. Before you could ever say “No Grandma, you really don’t have to…” it was already on the table. She was hands down the best cook, and the best baker there ever was. Her chocolate chip cookies were famous. One was so lucky to leave Vivian’s home with an ice cream pail of chocolate chip cookies, or banana chocolate chip muffins! Vivian was an extraordinary lady who was loved by many. We were fortunate to know her. She will be missed so much. Vivian was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Lloyd Scott, by one day. Her parents Pete and Elisabeth Sundquist, her sister and brother-in-law Loretta (Norman) Williams, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jack (Edna) Scott, sister-in-law June Jones, brother-in-law George Scott. She is survived by her children Brenda Scott and David Scott, grandchildren Jasmine (Chris) Schmidt, Lara (Daryl) Hampson, and Frederick (Jessica) Scott, great grandchildren Davis, Jenna, Sophie, Hailey, Beckham, and Emmett. Her sister Margaret and brother-in-law (Wes) Robertson, her brothers and sisters-in-law Peter (Olive) Sundquist, Harold (Lenore) Sundquist, and numerous nieces and nephews. A private family memorial service was held at Fotheringham-McDougall’s Funeral Home on April 6, 2015. A private family Interment will be held at the Watrous Cemetery at a future date. Memorial donations directed to the Manitou Lodge Auxiliary (Activity Department) would be appreciated. Fotheringham-McDougall Funeral Service of Watrous was in care of the arrangements.
