Lloyd Fredrick Scott Obituary

Lloyd Scott, aged 89 years, passed away peacefully at the Watrous District Health Complex on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 with his family by his side. Lloyd was born to Fred and Alice Scott July 19th, 1925. Lloyd had 5 siblings, Jack, George, June, Margaret and Earl. As a young boy, Lloyd received his education at Thornfield School. He left after his completion of Grade 8 to begin work in the surrounding area. Lloyd met Vivian Sundquist from Venn, and they were married July 12th, 1950. This year we would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary, a true testament of their love and commitment towards one another. Two children were born to them, Brenda in 1952, and David in 1953. Lloyd and Vivian lived and farmed west of Lockwood for more than twenty years. They moved to Watrous in 1973, Lloyd still active with the family farm, and remained there for the rest of their lives. Lloyd was raised with a strong work ethic. Lloyd’s entire life’s work was dedicated to the success of the family farm. In his youth he performed many chores on his mother and father’s farm, and as a young man was employed by various farmers in the area to assist with farm labor. He established a mixed farming operation with his brother George and family, and in later years passed the family farm down to his son David and family. Lloyd farmed every day. He could often be found down at the quonset greasing equipment, moving trucks to and from the fields, or off to the pasture to check on the cattle and fencelines. Lloyd travelled endless miles on the Lockwood grid, and when he couldn’t drive himself anymore, it was no surprise to see Vivian take over the role of chauffeur, just so he could know what was going on out there. Many conversations around the kitchen table revolved around what was happening out at the farm. Lloyd loved to stay on top of things by watching the news, sports, current events, and politics on television. He was an avid reader of the Star Phoenix, the Western Producer and every local paper from the surrounding area. He loved to read the community History Books, and many hours were spent listening to stories about families that he had some past recollection of. Lloyd loved watching sports on TSN! Curling, tennis, hockey and golf were his favorites, and he kept track of all the wins and losses. Lloyd was a private man, who mostly enjoyed the comfort of his own home. He truly enjoyed Vivian’s excellent cooking skills, and was always quick to invite family to stay for a bite to eat. In later years, he enjoyed sitting on his swing outside in his backyard, birdwatching and enjoying the beauty of Vivian’s garden. He especially loved his family, his grand and great grandchildren. The smile that lit up his face whenever he saw his loved ones will be greatly missed by those who cared deeply for him. Lloyd was predeceased by his parents Fred and Alice Scott, brother and sister-in-law Jack (Edna) Scott, brother George Scott, sister June Jones, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Norman and Loretta Williams. Lloyd was survived by his wife Vivian of 64 years for one, brief day. She didn’t let grandpa wait too long for her. He is survived by his children Brenda Scott and David Scott, grandchildren Jasmine (Chris) Schmidt, Lara (Daryl) Hampson, and Frederick (Jessica) Scott, great grandchildren Davis, Jenna, Sophie, Hailey, Beckham, and Emmett. His brother Earl (Mardelle) Scott, his sister Margaret (Rudy Gross), brother-in-law Lloyd Jones, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Peter (Olive) Sundquist and Harold (Lenore) Sundquist, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Margaret (Wes) Robertson, and numerous nieces and nephews. A private family memorial service was held at Fotheringham-McDougall’s Funeral Home on April 6, 2015. A private family Interment will be held at the Watrous Cemetery at a future date. Memorial donations directed to the Manitou Lodge Auxiliary (Activity Department) would be appreciated. Fotheringham-McDougall Funeral Service of Watrous was in care of the arrangements.
