Richard Law

Richard McConway Law of Winchester, Virginia, died from pancreatic cancer at his home on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. He was 84 years old. Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Nancy Miller Law. Richard was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on November 22, 1930. He is the son of Stanley Overholt Law and Myra Louise McConway Law of Philadelphia. His brother, Robert Overholt Law, preceded him in death. Richard is also survived by three children: James McConway Law of Linden, VA; Carolyn Ann Law of Stephen’s City, VA: and Thomas Miller Law (Kathryn) of Cincinnati, OH. He leaves five grandchildren: Bryan Maxwell (Kathryn), Cari Ball, Samantha Law, Emily Law and Audrey Law. Richard graduated from Mercersburg Academy (class of 1948) and Lafayette College (class of 1952) where he was a member of the swim team and Chi Phi fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1955 with a Topography battalion in Tokyo during the Korean War. After his service, Richard joined the Procter and Gamble Company where he enjoyed a 35-year career as a civil engineer, managing various construction projects throughout the east coast of the United States and in Europe. He and his wife met life-long friends while raising three children in Greenhills, a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1989, Richard and Nancy Law moved to Winchester, Virginia to help their son, Jim, establish Linden Vineyards. He enjoyed singing in the Chancel Choir of the First Presbyterian Church of Winchester, and served for 20 years as a Tax Aide for the local chapter of AARP. Richard loved golfing at Winchester Country Club, the friendship of the Grape Society wine group, and travel, including family vacations at the Yankanuck Club on Lake Huron in Canada. His passion for learning, penchant for planning and love of family will remain in our memories. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 22nd at the First Presbyterian Church Winchester, 116 South Louden Street, Winchester, VA, 22601. Memorial donations to the Chancel Choir, First Presbyterian Church Winchester.
