John Lengerich Obituary

John R. Lengerich, 77, of Decatur, passed away at his residence on Thursday, March 12, 2015. John was born on June 8, 1937 in Decatur, IN to the late Herman and Amelia (Ulman) Lengerich. On May 13, 1961 he married Jane A. Geimer. John was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society. He worked at International Harvester for 23 years and for Dana Spicer Axle Division for 17 years retiring in 2005. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany. He was a 1955 graduate of Decatur Catholic High School. John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jane Lengerich of Decatur; two sons, John E. (Carolyn) Lengerich and Joe P. (Janel) Lengerich both of Decatur; two daughters, Jackie S. (Mark) Bonahoom of Ft. Wayne and Jeanne M. (David) Thieme of Decatur; two sisters, Mary Ellen Welling of Bryant and Ruth Wilder of Decatur; five brothers, Ted Lengerich of Berne, Tony (Janet) Lengerich of Decatur, Ed (Susie) Lengerich of Elkhart, Mike (Pat) Lengerich and Joe (Jane) Lengerich both of Decatur; 11 grandchildren, Joshua (Samantha), Johnny (Madison), Isaac Lengerich; Justin and Janessa Lengerich; Jim, Joe and Jon Fox; Ben (Ashley), Patrick and Sarah Thieme; five great grandchildren, Rylee and John, Brody and Olive Lengerich and Riley Thieme. John was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be from 12:00-4:00 Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home, followed by Reciting of the Holy Rosary at 4:00 p.m. Calling also on Monday, March 16th from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Parish Hall, followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Father David Voors will be officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by American Legion Post 43 Color Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School, St. Mary’s Church or American Cancer Society.
