Gordon was born August 16, 1924 in Winchester, the second son of Elmer and Edna Laing. He married his beloved wife of 65 years Varina Taylor Laing in Morehead City, NC on April 2, 1949. Gordon spent 30 years 3 months and 29 days in the Marine Corp, ultimately obtaining the rank of Sergeant-Major. After leaving the Marine Corps, he returned to Winchester where he was a foreman with Abex in Winchester before retiring permanently. Gordon loved above all things his family. He valued the time he was able to spend with each and every one of them. He was extremely proud of each of their accomplishments and never missed an opportunity to tell others about his family. Having spent so many years in the Marine Corps and traveling the world he had countless entertaining stories to tell that he enjoyed sharing with friends and family. As a youth he spent his time hunting and fishing in and around Winchester, his love for both continued his entire life. He ensured it was a tradition that was passed down to his children and grandchildren. He loved making trips to Sea Level, NC the hometown of his wife, he enjoyed the slow pace, the water and visiting with his in-laws. In addition to his wife Varina, Gordon is survived by sons Gordon Laing, Jr., Michael Laing and wife Jackie, daughter Sandra Rush and husband Bob. Grandchildren; Matt Moffett, Nathan and Melissa Laing, Tiffany Laing, Josh Laing, Ashley Rush, and Aaron Laing. As well as 4 great-grandchildren; Dylan, Nate, Ethan, and Colton.
