II Timothy 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Leona Ray Shelton, age 79, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2015 in the Center on Aging, Erwin following a lengthy illness. She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Basil and Zettie Shelton Ray. Mrs. Shelton retired from Morrill Electric after fifteen years of service. She was of the Baptist faith and attended the Memorial Church of God, Marshall, NC. She enjoyed church fellowship, gospel singing, gardening, flowers, and she doted on her grandsons and loved spending time with them. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Winfred A. Shelton March on 1, 2004; an infant son on March 9, 1955; three brothers, Haze Landers, Harold Ray and Barnus Ray. Mrs. Shelton was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, a daughter, Debbie Corn of Piney Flats who so lovingly cared for her mother during her illness for the past ten years; two sisters, Wanda Jones and husband, Reverend Bernie Jones of Erwin; Ann Edwards of Erwin; two grandsons, Ryan and Keaton Corn, both of Piney Flats; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. Monday, March 9, 2015, until the hour service at 7:00 P.M. Reverend Winfred Shelton, Reverend Kevin Laws and Reverend Bernie Jones will officiate. Music will be provided by Reverend Winfred Shelton, Bobby and Agnes Ramsey and Reverend Kevin Laws. Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Corn, Keaton Corn, Jeff Allen, Doug Jones, Justin Edwards and Jacob Allen. Those wishing to attend the 2:00 P.M. committal service are asked to meet at the Evergreen Cemetery by 1:45 P.M. Tuesday. The family would like to thank the staff of the Center on Aging for their many years of care and also thank the Avalon Hospice for their care.
