Mrs. Kate Chandler Edwards, age 97, Coffee Ridge Community, Erwin, passed away Friday, March 6, 2015 in the Brookedale Assisted Living Community, Athens, Tennessee. She was a native of Erwin and a daughter of the late Joe Henry and Sally Tilson Chandler. Mrs. Edwards retired in 1979 from the Unicoi County School System where she had taught for thirty-six years. She was a member of the Coffee Ridge Baptist Church; a member of the retired Teachers Association; and a volunteer worker for the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Other than her parents, Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her husband, Thad Howard Edwards on November 12, 2005; a son, Terry Lynn Edwards; four brothers, Ezra, Howard, Claude, and Guy Chandler; five sisters, Creola Edwards, Eva Hensley, Mertie Masters, Hazel Guinn and Addie Sexton. Mrs. Edwards leaves behind to cherish her memory, a grandson, Darin Edwards and wife, Jill of Athens; a granddaughter, Tiffany Edwards Williams and husband, Roger of Etowah; two great grandchildren, Dillan Edwards and Jacey Edwards; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 8, 2015 from 1:00 P. M. until the hour of service at 2:30 P. M. Reverend Brad Willis will officiate. Music will be provided by Inez Chandler. Committal service will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.
