George Dolleris Obituary

George Dolleris, 84, of Coventry, CT died March 1, 2015 in East Hartford, CT. He was born August 5, 1930 in Flushing, NY, to Aage and Anna Dolleris. He lived his childhood in Great Neck, NY, graduating Great Neck High School in 1948. He then graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1952 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and from the University of Connecticut in 1961 with a MS in Mechanical Engineering. George had a 40-year career at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, CT, specializing in aircraft instrumentation. He was widely known and admired for his uncanny ability to make anything, fix anything, and figure out anything. In his work, at home, in all aspects of his life, he was an engineer through-and-through, a know-it-all who really did know it all. He was a 53-year resident of Bunker Hill Road in Coventry and served the town well as a member of the Coventry Rotary Club, the Coventry Lions Club, the Coventry Planning and Zoning Committee, the Republican Town Committee and the Connecticut Citizens’ Action Group. George was a private pilot, flying his favorite Cessna 150s and Piper Cherokees across Connecticut and Block Island. Then he discovered the draw of off-shore fishing and became an avid aficionado of all things boating, enthusiastically pioneering the latest long-range navigation equipment in the constant pursuit of bigger and faster bluefish, tuna and shark, first in his Boston Whaler “Tenacity” and later in his beloved Black Watch “Raven”. George was a die-hard New York Giants fan, a season ticket holder for 60 years. He was particularly proud of his Danish heritage, relishing the food, the flag, and of course Manhattans made “the Danish way”. George is survived by his daughter Laurie Fleischman and husband Neil of New Fairfield, CT, his daughter Pamela Healey of Seattle, WA, his son Allen Dolleris and wife Karen Blackburn of Afton, VA, and his six grandchildren: HN Andrew Fleischman, US Navy stationed at Portsmouth, VA, and his wife Chelsea Rey Fleischman, Daniel Fleischman living in Keene, NH, Aidan Healey living in Grinnell, IA, Ciaran Healey of Seattle, WA, Anna Dolleris and Russell Dolleris of Afton, VA. George was predeceased by his loving wife Carol May Allen Dolleris in 2001. The family will receive friends at the Coventry-Pietras Funeral Home, 2665 Boston Turnpike in Coventry CT on Saturday, March 28, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Nathan Hale Cemetery in Coventry, CT. Donations can be made to the Covenant Soup Kitchen, in Willimantic, CT where George was a frequent contributor of bluefish, or to a charity of one’s choice.
