John Morrison

John Hull Morrison, III, 72, of Winchester, died Thursday, February 26, 2015, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 24, 1942, in Lexington, Va., the son of the late John Hull Morrison, Jr. and the late Louise Monroe Morrison. A graduate of the University of Virginia, John was a devoted fan of Cavaliers basketball and an avid fly fisherman. He treasured his decades-long friendships with “Rattlesnakes” Chuck, Larry, Phil, Burt, Brian, Soggs, Pete, Wayne and Walt. He owned and operated The Piccadilly Printing Co. from 1985 until 2012. Though officially retired, John continued his role as a compassionate activist, working on behalf of others in the community, most recently as co-chair of the Capital Campaign Committee for The Laurel Center. He was the former vice chair of the Winchester Democratic Committee, a past member of the Board of Trustees of Powhatan School, past president of the Board of Directors of Wayside Theater, former member of the Inner Circle of the Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre, and past member of the Lord Fairfax Community College Educational Foundation. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the members of the Blue Ridge Hospice who provided loving care for John: Dr. Milligan, Grover, Nicole, Tam and Lauri. He is survived by his wife Laurie H. Morrison, of Winchester; daughter Rebecca L. Morrison, of Richmond, Va., sister Susan L. Morrison, of Alexandria, Va.; step-mother Kathryn Morrison, step-brothers Larry Porter and Mark Porter, step-sister Ellen Rexrode, nieces and nephews and extended family, all of Petersburg, W.Va. His daughter Kelly R. Morrison preceded him in death. To honor John’s dedication to serving others, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made in his name to The Laurel Center, P.O. Box 14, Winchester, VA 22604. A memorial service to celebrate John’s life will be held on Saturday, March 7, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, South Pleasant Valley Rd.; burial in Lexington., Va., will be private.
