Leonard Kittleson, Frankfort, 87 passed into Heaven Wednesday February 25, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Leonard was born in Frankfort July 8, 1927, The 4th child of Karl and Carrie (Larson) Kittleson. He attended Frankfort Schools and served his country in the U.S. Army at the end of WW 2, being stationed in Germany. In June of 1948 he married Fern M. Plant and together they raised two sons, Larry and Dennis. Leonard was a faithful and lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church serving in many ways including ushering, mowing grass, snow plowing and washing dishes. He worked 29 years on the Ann Arbor Carferries, beginning as a deckhand and working his way up to Captain. Retiring at 50 years old Len kept busy remodeling his home, operating "Larry's Towing Service" and was a gate-keeper at Crystal Downs Country Club for 25 years on summer evenings where he could be found feeding the raccoons. Len was a man of great humor known especially by his family and friends. He was affectionately known by his grandchildren as Poohy (Pooh Bear). He enjoyed daily coffee hour with his family, old time country music and most of all his Norwegian Heritage. With the onset of Alzheimer’s Len never lost his humor and if asked "how are you?" would reply "Elegant". Len received loving care from All at The Maples of which the family is truly thankful. Leonard is survived by sons: Larry (Mary) Kittleson and Dennis (Claudia) Kittleson, Grandchildren: Kristi Kittleson and Daniel (Torey) Kittleson. Great grandchildren: Brenden Kittleson, Allyson Roberts, Hailey and Michael Kittleson. Brother-in-law William (Blanche) Plant, sister-in-law Sharon (Tom) Curl, cousin Bob Larson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Fern ,infant daughter Cathleen. Brother Earl Kittleson, sisters Edvena House and Anna Louise (in childhood) and Grandchildren: Gretchen and Michael Kittleson. Memorial Services for Leonard Kittleson will be held Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Frankfort with Reverend Rick Stieve officiating. The family will be at the church from 10:00 AM until time of service to receive friends. Memorials in Len’s name may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church in Frankfort.
