Edith Pelkey

East Millinocket – Edith M. Pelkey, 88, wife of the late Eugene Pelkey, died Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at a Millinocket hospital. She was born December 8, 1926 in East Millinocket, the daughter of Fred and Laura (Michau) Fortine. Edith was a homemaker, and loved spending time with her family. When her family was at home, she enjoyed making large Sunday dinners and creating lasting memories with them. One of her favorite pastimes was knitting and crocheting, a hobby at which she was a perfectionist. She was much loved and will be missed. Edith is survived by two children, David Pelkey and his wife Evelyn, and Jessica Rosebush and her husband Billy; a daughter in law, Donna Pelkey; a brother, Freddy King and his wife Mary Ellen; five grandchildren, Tally and Jamie Herring, Dale and Melissa Pelkey, Leslie and Mark Wallace, Jennifer and Tony Lavertu, and James Rosebush; eight great grandchildren, Brett and Cody Herring, Alisa, Alexis and Kaydence Pelkey, Shelby and Ethan Pelkey, and Madison Wallace; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and her husband, Edith was predeceased by a son, Herman Pelkey, two brothers, Roy and David Fortine, and two grandchildren, David and Laura Pelkey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 A.M. Friday, March 6 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church of Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, 58 Cedar St., East Millinocket, with the Rev. Bruce Siket, pastor, presider. Spring interment will be in East Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Edith may be sent to the Katahdin Area Support Group, P.O. Box 374, Millinocket, ME 04462. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, East Millinocket.
